Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Department of Critical Care of Paediatrics

ICU of Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital is a special care unit serving the critically ill children of this hospital that offers life support systems and facilities for continuous monitoring. Intensive care medicine is advancing rapidly. It has tremendous contribution to the survival of critically ill children with highly sophisticated and specialized care in an organized manner by a team approach.

In October, 1992, an eight bedded ICU was started in DSH, in collaboration with JICA and kind donation of Late Mr. Jan Mohammed Parekh. Afterwards the total number of bed has been increased to 16 due to its increased demand. In this ICU both neonate and pediatric patients are now treated separately.

Since the beginning of ICU till now the total available hospital bed has increased from 350 to 650. However, size of the ICU has not increased proportionately to accommodate more patients.

Now a days, many patients are refused due to lack of accommodation. So, it is important to increase the size of our ICU to accommodate more patients from both within and outside our hospital.
